Sam Tonelli Commits to Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks
FORT ERIE, ONT. — Fort Erie Meteors centre Sam Tonelli has officially announced his commitment to play U SPORTS hockey with the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks beginning in the 2026-27 season.
The 20-year-old forward from Port Colborne, Ontario — has been a key contributor in the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL).
Over the past four seasons in junior hockey, Tonelli has steadily developed his game into a blend of offensive threat and reliable two-way play. After being acquired by the Meteors from the Port Colborne Sailors, he won the 2024-2025 Golden Horseshoe Championship.
This past season, Tonelli further elevated his play, leading the Meteors in scoring and currently sits second in the Eastern Conference in points.
Wilfrid Laurier University and its Golden Hawks hockey program compete in U SPORTS men’s hockey and have a strong reputation for developing players both on and off the ice.
Congratulations to Sam Tonelli on his commitment to Wilfrid Laurier University!
