Meteors Bomb Caledon in Opener

Danny Adamo set the tone early for the Fort Erie Meteors Saturday.

The 17-year-old winger scored just 38 seconds into the game as the Meteors went on to blank the Caledon Bombers 6-0 at the Leisureplex in the 2025/26 Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League season opener for both teams.

Adamo was thrilled to get the season started after a long training camp and exhibition season.

“I was definitely excited for it,” he said. “Obviously based off the score, we’re looking pretty well right now. We’ve got a great goalie in there and we’re feeling good.”

Adamo is coming off a solid rookie season, contributing 10 goals and 33 points in 49 regular season games before adding six goals and 12 points on 16 post-season contests.

“I expect for myself to do a lot better this year,” he said. “I kind of got the rookie jitters out and definitely feeling more comfortable.”

Adamo, who had a goal in two games for the Mets two years ago as a 15-year-old affiliated player, admitted it took some adjusting to junior after playing at the U16 level with the Niagara North Stars.

“It’s a big difference,” said Adamo, who also added an assist. “It’s a whole different game. You don’t get away with anything anymore. You actually have to play defence. It’s not just all fun. It’s definitely a lot more realistic and better hockey.”

Adamo got to play with his brother, Kyle Adamo, last season but is on his own this year after his older sibling graduated.

“I definitely miss him,” Danny Adamo said. “Last year was a special year, obviously, but that’s just the way it goes.”

Fort Erie head coach/general manager Nik Passero feels Danny Adamo will play a bigger role in his sophomore season.

“Yeah, he’s got to do that. Obviously not three points every night, but he’s got to find a way to help us produce because we’re going to rely on that line (with Sam Tonelli and Easton Poirier).

“He was good tonight. I’m not happy with his penalty (misconduct) but overall I think his line played well and got a lot of offence going for us.”

Passero feels the younger Adamo has learned the importance of a consistent effort.

“He’s come a long way,” Passero said. “He’s learned lots. I would say he plays the game harder than he used to and he’s doing his job.”

The Meteors turned in a solid overall effort, with 10 players hitting the scoresheet with at least one point.

“We want to find ways to score and we did that today and it was a typical defensive performance by our group,” Passero said.

Tonelli led the offence with a goal and four assists. Hunter Coley added two goals and Reece Matier netted a goal in his junior debut.

Finn Moffett made 19 saves for the shutout.

“Finn did what he had to do. He made a couple breakaway saves and we kind of let off the gas there a little bit,” Passero said.
