Fort Erie, Ontario — The Greater Ontario Hockey League’s (GOHL) Fort Erie Meteors and the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Erie Otters have officially entered into an affiliation agreement, General Managers Nikolas Passero (Fort Erie) and Dave Brown (Erie) jointly announced Tuesday.
This partnership connects two organizations committed to player development, community involvement, and competitive excellence. The affiliation will provide Fort Erie players and prospects with an enhanced opportunity to develop within a professional environment while offering the Otters a trusted partner just across the border.
“We’re incredibly proud to announce this partnership with the Erie Otters,” said Fort Erie Meteors General Manager and Head Coach Nik Passero. “The Otters are a first-class organization that shares our values of development, culture, and community. This affiliation creates a direct pathway for our players to reach the next level, and we’re excited to continue helping young athletes prepare for success in the OHL and beyond.”
The connection between the two clubs has already produced success stories. Erie Otters goaltender Charlie Burns, who captured a Golden Horseshoe Championship with the Meteors in 2023–24 and was named Playoff MVP, is a shining example of the type of player this relationship aims to foster.
“Charlie’s journey from Fort Erie to Erie shows exactly what this partnership is all about,” Passero added. “He developed through our program, earned everything he’s achieved, and continues to represent what it means to be a Meteor. We’re proud to see him thriving with the Otters.”
The affiliation will allow Erie to assign affiliated players, draft picks, and prospects to Fort Erie for continued development, while both organizations collaborate on scouting, player evaluation, and advancement initiatives. The Meteors’ proximity to Erie — just over 100 miles away — makes the relationship not only ideal geographically but also strategically beneficial for both sides.
The Fort Erie Meteors would like to thank the Erie Otters organization for their shared vision and commitment to supporting player growth. Together, both clubs look forward to creating a developmental pipeline that benefits players, families, and the wider hockey community in both regions.
